Week 11 – Monday-Thursday Mon 5th September – Thurs 8th September 2005 I have spent a blissful four days doing more or less NOTHING. I have slept, ate, slept a bit more, ate a bit more, read, had long baths, watched cable, flicked through magazines and generally chilled out. I still feel exhausted, my limbs are still heavy and hard to move and the slightest tasks drains me, but I am at home, I am with Hubby, and that makes it all a bit easier. I met my midwife for the first time on Monday. She was very nice, very matter-of-fact, which I suppose is a good thing. Apparently I am considered “high risk” because of my ulcerative colitis – but she seemed very blasé about this and explained it just meant I had an extra factor to take into consideration, but seeing as I am already receiving expert care for the disease she didn’t seem too concerned. Speaking of ulcerative colitis, I have been contacted by “others”! Two other girls to be precise, who are both pregnant and both have UC. The relief in finding, and communicating with, other people in the same position is indescribable. **LOOK AWAY NOW IF YOU ARE OF A DELICATE DISPOSITION** There are some mornings when I am sitting on the loo for ages, or some days when I am out shopping and I am caught by a sudden urge to run very quickly to the nearest public convenience regardless of its location or condition, that I can feel very very alone. So to have others to talk to is a huge support. On Tuesday Hubby and I drove down to Southend to get a bit of sea air. We stopped in a café and had the loveliest fish and chips with good friendly Essex hospitality. We wandered along the seafront for half an hour or so before I was completely worn out, then headed back home. On Wednesday it was time for my monthly trip to see my UC consultant. He was generally pleased with how I was getting on, increased my Asacol medication by 800mg and decreased my steroids by another 1mg. And I didn’t have to have any blood tests! Result! Speaking of blood tests – I have to have a general screening blood test when I go for my first scan. It checks for all kinds of nasties like Hep B and HIV etc and now I am all worried that I may have been living with HIV since my promiscuous university days and have had no idea. So now I am terrified of the results of this test! Sometimes I wonder about my own sanity. Today, Thursday, Hubby and I have been running around packing and getting things ready for going off on holiday tomorrow. We’re off to Uzes in the South of France for a week with my Dad and my step-mum. I am really looking forward to it, I love France and, more importantly, I love French food! I also love French wine of course, but I shall just have to eat more French food to make up for not being able to drink it! So I shall next update when I return from France in a week – by which point we’ll nearly be at 12 weeks! I can’t believe we’re nearly there!
