Week 17 – Thursday-Friday
Thurs 20th – Fri 21st October 2005 Thursday:
Things with my colitis have gone from bad to worse and as I entered my third day off work this week I got in touch with my Doctor to try and find a solution. I am now back up to 40mg of steroids. 40!! So I can look forward to a nice swollen red face and many sleepless nights again soon. And if this dose doesn’t work then it’s back to hospital again to be attached to a drip. Let me say now that I most categorically (and I don’t use such long words lightly) do NOT want to go back into hospital. It smells, it’s dull as shit, it’s like being in prison and the food is appalling – the baby would get absolutely NO nutrition from over-cooked carrots, stale reconstituted mash and strange substances masquerading as “stew”. Friday:
Fourth day off work. Tummy no better. Second day of super-strength steroid dosage. No sign of balloon face as yet.
Decided to have a snooze today at around 2pm, only to be woken at 2.05pm by an orchestra of banging, drilling and other DIY sounds from the flat upstairs. We have been living here two years and they have been making this kind of noise since we moved in – what can be left to do up there for goodness sake? It must look like a palace by now. And they never ONCE come down just to say “Hi, we’re gonna be fitting a new kitchen this weekend so it’ll be a bit noisy from around 10am until 5ish I’m afraid” despite us having asked them very politely if they could give us warning so we can make arrangements to go out, but OH NO they just go ahead and fit a new bathroom over the three-day bank holiday weekend without any warning at all. Selfish c-words. My hormone levels are through the roof, I have a four-month old fetus having a growth spurt in my tummy and I am on 40mg of mood-altering drugs which don’t seem to be targeting the pain and the inflammation that they are supposed to – I am not a woman to be messing with today. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!! Wonder how much it would be to buy a punch-bag in Argos?
