Week 17 – Saturday-Sunday
Sat 22nd – Sun 23rd October 2005 Saturday: After a lovely evening the night before at my sisters (we had lasagne and chocolate brownies and I had a lovely glass of red wine..) Saturday did not start too well. My tummy was terrible, but then after half an hour it just stopped. I normally have to go through an hour of the pain etc and then another hour mid morning. But on Saturday it stopped and it didn’t come back all day. Things weren’t normal and as my mum, Hubby and I browsed around the shops I still observed my fellow shoppers with a little envy at their normality, but I still managed to shop, go to the hairdressers, shop again, and enjoy it without problems. I was like a normal healthy non-ill person blending in with all the others doing regular Saturday things. It was amazing. Yes I know that shopping for a few hours on a Saturday afternoon is no huge achievement, but to me it was like reaching the top of Mount Everest and looking back down on the climb. Amazing. As I had had a tough week, and Hubby had looked after me so well, I treated him to some DVDs and myself to a hair cut (see photo in Bumpwatch) and a v-shaped maternity pillow. My maternity pillow is my new best friend, I have named it Valerie. Valerie and I have not been apart much since she came home with us. Valerie is featured in Bumpwatch, demonstrated by Hubby. We spent Saturday night chilling out and watching telly before going to bed ridiculously early, I was exhausted. Sunday: Sunday started in pretty much the same way as Saturday – badly. My tummy was awful, so bad I was nearly sick with the pain of it all, then after half an hour it just stopped. And once again I have managed a whole day of normality. After some lunch at mum’s we even went to Lakeside, like other normal people! We went to Ikea! Like normal people who can wander around til their heart’s content looking at soft furnishings. We bought a baby bath for £3.99, bargain. We found a wonderful embroidered lampshade for the nursery, covered in butterflys and bugs and jungle scenes – we’re going to have a jungle theme for the nursery based on the lampshade, it’s so gorgeous. Now we are home and chilling out. I am somewhat restless due to the amount of steroids coursing through my veins, but it’s worth it for the normality it brings to my life. I am dreading the morning, but hopefully if things are bad it’ll last half an hour and stop, then I can get out into the real world and rejoin the human race for Week Eighteen. So here’s to Normality and here’s to Health *raises mug of chamomile tea* Cheers!
