Week 22 – Monday-Sunday

Monday 21st November – Sunday 27th November 2005

Monday:
I am in the office for two days this week and I have a hefty workload, so I have to effectively squeeze nine days work into two days. God help me. Today was madness and I had my annual appraisal, although that went very very well and I feel nice and motivated following the feedback I received from my line manager, service managers and colleagues.

It’s harder to take things in my stride at 22 weeks pregnant though and, whereas usually I would wind down at the end of a hectic day with a glass or three of wine and a night in front of the telly, I found myself crawling into bed at around 9.30pm and passing out as soon as my knees hit my maternity pillow.

Tuesday:
Hell created a day, called it Tuesday 22nd November and then sent it out into the world for me to live through. Well okay that’s slightly dramatic but today was a stressful day.

Starting work at 8am I didn’t stop until 6pm when the last piece of work had been sorted and the posters I needed for the conference on Friday were picked up from the printers in Shoreditch. I really didn’t stop, not once, not even at lunchtime, I barely had time to inhale a sandwich. I am utterly exhausted and I am not sure I can remember my own name.

A momentous occasion on the way home though – somebody gave me a seat on the tube!! YES! At last, my belly is protruding enough for people to be pretty naïve to blame it all on too many pies, I have a certified baby-belly now, even if it is slightly small. And I couldn’t have been more grateful for that seat than if it were made of pillows and chocolate.

Wednesday and Thursday:
On Wednesday and Thursday I attended training in Whitechapel. The training centre was brilliant – FREE Cadbury’s chocolate fingers ALL DAY. And Jaffa Cakes and caffeine free tea. A pregnant woman’s dream. Plus two days away from the office is a god-send right now, seeing as it’s so stressful there at the moment, and I got to play with computers all day at training thus nurturing my inner-geek.

Friday:
The day of the staff conference and another mad stress packed day. I arrived to set up at 8am and wasn’t out of there until gone 5pm, when I had to then endure a long train journey home. The problem with being pregnant in winter I have now discovered is that you wear so many layers it covers your protruding baby-belly so people can’t see it and therefore don’t offer you a seat. So not only are you cold but you’re stuck standing and pressed up into somebody’s armpit too.

Saturday:
Off to my Daddy’s yay! We arrived in Chievely at midday and after some lunch headed to Halford’s where my Dad bought us a baby carrier for the car. So now we can officially take the baby home from the hospital when it arrives! Very exciting.

In the evening my Dad treated us to dinner at the local gastro-pub for our two-year wedding anniversary (which is on Tuesday) and his birthday (which was on Thursday). We then had a glass of champers and watched X-factor and ate the carrot-cake I had made for my Dad.

Big dinner + champagne + Saturday-night-telly + cake = Happy Pregnant Lady

Sunday:
Hubby and Dad disappeared back to Halfords and returned with a new car stereo for our little Micra, Willy. This is marvelous as it plays CDs and it actually works, unlike the old one which played tapes and worked only as and when it felt like it. I had a bad attack of Colitis after lunch, bit annoying and not a good way to end the weekend, plus I hate my Dad seeing me ill, and the attacks always leave me looking like I’ve just survived some terrible trauma. But I was soon recovered and Hubby and I were heading home down the M4 listening to KT Tunstall with me munching on my latest addiction, satsumas, all the way.

Yet another week over and a new one starting tomorrow. Work is still going to be stressful for a while but I am hoping it will calm down before Christmas. Roll on 23rd December when we are heading down to Kent with the new stereo blasting out my naff Christmas CD!

I’m gonna save the Week 22 photo and take it on Tuesday in our anniversary.
