Week 26 and Week 27

Monday 19th December - New Years Day 2006

Having finally got through the final four days at work Hubby and I made our way to Kent on the afternoon of Friday 23rd December after my midwife appointment. It was my first proper appointment with my community midwife since meeting her briefly when I was 12 weeks pregnant. I didn't like her much then and I was hoping she may have just been having an off day, but she was just as horrible this time round. I wonder why she is a midwife when she clearly hates doing it? So after waiting for an hour then being roughly prodded about we were finally on our way to Kent, Christmas songs blasting from the car stereo, to begin our Christmas break.

Christmas was just brilliant. I relaxed totally over the week and got completely spoiled by my mum and Hubby, who brought me endless cups of tea and diet coke and fed me chocolate and cakes and cheese and mince pies and all manner of unhealthy delights. There was an extra stocking on Christmas day for the unborn baby - filled with newborn clothes and booties, a baby-monitor and a softer than soft monkey toy. Hubby bought me lots of DVDs, a book (which I read in one day!) and a subscription to my favourite magazine. We took the week 26 picture in front of the Christmas tree on Christmas Day.

Hubby had to go back to work on Wednesday 28th, so I bought him an extra three presents for under the tree - one for every day he had to go back to work whilst I lounged around at home watching DVDs and eating Quality Street.

Our friends Bee and Ian and Fairy and Stuart came down to my mum's on New Year's Eve for a relaxing and understated celebration. Hubby set off some fireworks and we all had some sparklers. I had a glass of champagne at midnight, which was lovely, though another four or five would have been even lovelier. We stayed up until 2am, by which point I was so knackered I may as well have been drunk – I was talking rubbish and walking into furniture. I even had to have a little snooze the next day to aid my recovery.

My New Year’s Resolutions:
1. Be frugal!
2. Read all the Harry Potter books.
3. Have a baby (it's good to have achieveable goals!)

So Week 27 came to an end as 2006 began. 2005 was pretty rubbish what with getting so ill and ending up in hospital and spending the last ten months on hideous drugs, but it also had its highlights – like our camping trip to Norfolk in June and, of course, getting pregnant! 2006 is going to be hard work with a new baby and some major financial adjustments to be made, as well as a relocation to Kent in August. Things ain’t gonna be easy, but it’ll all be worth it.
