Week 34 – Friday-Sunday

Friday 17th-Sunday 19th February 2006

Friday:
Friday Friday Friday!! Yaay! Another week nearly over and another week closer to meeting our little girl. And another week closer to no longer having to travel on public transport and have to put up with the selfish numpties who don't give up their seats. Pah!

I saw my homeopath last night and he has given me some extra remedies to help, in his words, "earth me" so that I can stay calm and focussed in the lead up to the birth. He has also given me a long list of remedies to take during labour to help me stay calm and relaxed. I really want it all to be a positive experience and, I never thought I'd say this, I want to go as far as I can with just my oils and remedies, the tens machine and gas and air. I'm not going in for a hero award or anything and I will have an epidural if the pain gets too much, but it would be nice not to have to involve stuff like that if possible. It's funny how my views have changed over the last few weeks - before I was all for masses amounts of drugs from the word go!

Got a busy weekend ahead. We suddenly got loads of invites from friends and we decided to accept so that we can see as many people as we can now so that I can relax and not really go out or do much during March. So tonight we are having dinner with my friend Callie, on Saturday we're having dinner at my mum's with some of her friends, on Sunday we're going to our friends Tony and Chris's for dinner. Then hopefully at some point next week we'll be able to totally finish off the nursery, wash the baby clothes and put them all away properly!

Saturday:
Friday ended a bit badly. I started to feel quite ill in the afternoon- dizzy, hot, exhausted. I ended up going home early, which I felt really guilty about, not that I had much to do but still. With my interview on Monday for my "promotion" I've been trying to make a good impression. But it's difficult to cope being pregnant and the size of a small country. I went straight to bed when I got home and slept instantly - I think I must have knackered myself out to the point of feeling ill to be honest, I'm not very good at slowing down and it's beginning to take its toll. People keep telling me to rest and take it easy - but that's hard when working full-time, decorating, keeping on top of housework etc. It'll be easier in two weeks when I finally go on maternity leave.

Friday night was lovely though - we drove to my mum's place in Kent and my friend Callie came over for pizza. Bless her, she bought us some more lovely baby clothes from Baby Gap and a gorgeous baby blanket which will be perfect for wrapping up our little one on the trip home from the hospital. She also bought me a set of stuff from Crabtree and Evelyn which I lOVE, all in a lovely little toiletry bag which will be great for my hospital bag. I'm so lucky to have such lovely friends.

We picked up my mum from a party in Dartford later on - she was quite drunk and it was very amusing to have the role reversal: Us in the front commenting on the shortness of the skirts in the queue for the town nightclub, and mum in the back hiccupping.

On Saturday Hubby and I did a spot of shopping and got some bedding and some muslin squares for the nursery. Then after an afternoon lounging around (and snoozing for me) my mum's friend, her daughter and her daughter's boyfriend came over for dinner. It was a lovely evening and we all really got on well and had a real giggle. Everyone drank loads, bar me of course - I survived on a few glasses of fizzy water and a can of diet coke. I gave up and went to bed around midnight but the rest carried on until 2am - but I was oblivious as I was asleep the moment my head touched the pillow.

Sunday:
I had a leisurely morning on Sunday with my mum - we went to Primark and I bought a cool cream leather (well, "leather") bag with a charm attached. It's huge enough to fill with nappies, nipple cream, bottles, soft toys and various other baby paraphernalia and it is part of my grand plan to be a yummy mummy.

Sunday afternoon was a bit hectic. We loaded up the micra with the cot and other bits then drove in the pouring rain home to unload it all again. Then it was straight off to our friends Tony and Chris in Stratford for some Sunday dinner - it was lovely but we were so knackered. We left fairly early and were in bed by 9.30pm, I was asleep within five minutes whilst Hubby watched TV.

I have some new pillows which are helping me to sleep a lot better, though I still get awful heartburn in the night. I seem to grow a bit every day and it's getting so hard to function, and even harder to get comfortable in bed.

(I’ve put some new piccies up on Bumpwatch of the hard work on the nursery in action – the Week 33 piccy is there too!)
