Week 36 – Friday-Sunday

Friday 3rd March-Sunday 5th March 2006

Friday:
Well my usual Friday feeling is replaced today with Friday...anxiousness! Today is my last day at work and I will be going for lunch in an hour or so with a number of colleagues, then later on there will probably be a presentation and everyone will stand round my desk whilst I open presents etc. It sounds lovely but to me it's so frightening - I HATE being the centre of attention! I just hope I get through the whole thing without crying, going bright red or saying something really stupid.

I can't quite believe that my last day is finally here - one minute it seemed an age away and now all of a sudden here I am with seven work-free months ahead of me. It is an odd feeling indeed. I was determined to relish my final journey into work this morning and appreciate the good points of travel on the London Underground etc. But by the time some git in a suit had jumped ahead of me to the last seat and a bus had parked itself over a pedestrian crossing blocking my way I was well and truly pleased to be leaving it all behind! Seven months without public transport - bliss.

I have now completed all my work tasks - everything is complete, my emails are gone and my in-tray is totally empty. So it looks like I have a day of Weboggle ahead of me - wonder if I can leave early?!

Saturday:
Well Friday was fine. Lots of my colleagues turned up for lunch and I had a lovely cheese sarnie with chips. At 4pm everyone in the building gathered round to say goodbye, I was so embarrassed. Two of the managers I work for made a little speech and then I opened my pressies - a lovely posh bottle of shower gel (Lancome) and a gorgeous little picture frame for baby photos! I also got £50 worth of John Lewis vouchers - perfect, because we still need to buy some gro-bags and the like, and there will still be a little leftover to spend on something for me! So I did very well. The other PA that I work most closely with baked a chocolate cake that said "Bye Ali" on it and it was yummy. It was actually really sad to leave and I am going to miss the real world (but not the tube!)

On Saturday Hubby and I did a load of housework and Hubby emptied the nursery (again) so he could poly-filler the wall above the window and prep it for our second attempt at getting the curtain-pole up. My Dad and step-mum came down to take us to lunch, which was lovely. We relaxed on Saturday night and did very little, which I think we both needed.

Sunday:
On Sunday Hubby went off to play footie and I attacked the kitchen cupboards - they are now amazingly organised and I feel so much better for it. My next project, some time in the week, will be to declutter and organise our bedroom.

We went food shopping in the afternoon and stocked up on the ingredients we need to make freezer meals. We're going to make some lasagne, risotto, some fish pie, some chilli, some chicken soup and a cottage pie to freeze so that we have easy meals in the first few weeks when the baby is here. I am beginning to feel quite smug at how organised and prepared we are!
