Week 37-Monday-Wednesday Monday 6th March-Wednesday 8th March 2006 Monday: On Saturday Hubby and I did a load of housework and Hubby emptied the nursery (again) so he could poly-filler the wall above the window and prep it for our second attempt at getting the curtain-pole up. My Dad and step-mum came down to take us to lunch, which was lovely. We relaxed on Saturday night and did very little, which I think we both needed. On Sunday Hubby went off to play footie and I attacked the kitchen cupboards - they are now amazingly organised and I feel so much better for it. My next project, some time in the week, will be to declutter and organise our bedroom. We went food shopping in the afternoon and stocked up on the ingredients we need to make freezer meals. We're going to make some lasagne, risotto, some fish pie, some chilli, some chicken soup and a cottage pie to freeze so that we have easy meals in the first few weeks when the baby is here. I am beginning to feel quite smug at how organised and prepared we are! Today is my first day of maternity leave and it feels a bit strange and a bit of an anti-climax. I deliberately planned nothing so that I could kick-start my relaxation. I will be fairly busy (though nothing strenuous) with lunches, visits and hospital appointments over the next few weeks so hopefully it'll all be a bit less boring than today. I did a spot of tidying, ordered some birthday pressies for Hubby and baked some cookies - all whilst watching back-to-back baby programmes on Discovery Home and Health! Hubby's off work tomorrow to finish off the nursery so hopefully by tomorrow night I'll have some good photos to put up. Tuesday: When we got back Hubby attacked the nursery with the mammoth drill he borrowed from his boss and managed, thank goodness, to get the new curtain pole up. Whilst waiting for the paint to dry on the newly drilled wall we went off for my antenatal appointment at the hospital. As I live in a different borough to my hospital (even though my hospital is close to my home, closer than any other) I have a community midwife based in a different borough. Hence I see the midwives and my consultant at the hospital, and then see my community midwife separately. A lot of running around for a woman in her ninth month of pregnancy! Still, at least if I go into labour I'll be in the right place. The appointment went quite well - wee, blood pressure, baby's heartbeat all normal etc. The consultant popped by and said that when I cam in to the hospital in labour I would need to have an injection of something I can't pronounce to help my body cope with the "stress" as I am on 20mg of steroids. I'm not sure what this meant really - hope it doesn't mean that steroids will make labour hurt more!! The baby is lying head down with her back to my left side and her bum nestled comfortably on my lungs. We finally finished the nursery when we got back! At last! And it feels so good to have it done, we both feel so much more ready. I've included a before and after shot below but it has come out rather small I'm afraid! It was a messy yucky pink and filled with boxes, now it is a lovely cream colour with natural curtains (on a lovely pole!) and matching baskets etc. It looks so good. Wednesday: I've been feeling quite dizzy and nauseous recently so I am a little apprehensive about going out on my own but fingers crossed it'll all be ok. So far maternity leave is quite boring really! But it is wonderful to have to opportunity to rest and prepare.
