Week 37-Thursday-Friday Thursday 9th March and Friday 10th March 2006: Well I’ve had an interesting day. My mum picked me up yesterday morning and brought me back to Kent. We did a spot of shopping and I picked up my latest batch of various drugs from Boots, then we headed to my mum’s local hospital where she had an appointment for a colonoscopy (my mum has Crohn’s Disease, similar to the condition I have called Colitis.) I waited for a couple of hours whilst she went in for her procedure and then ran her home – she kept saying the sedative hadn’t affected her but she looked drunk, kept walking into things and asked me if I knew how to drive! Very amusing. We had a quiet night in front of the telly and I really really really really missed Hubby, it was horrible being apart, I really hate it. I had a small glass of wine to help me sleep and it worked a treat, I only woke up twice in the night to take Gavisgon and go to the loo. Today I went over to my sister’s place to meet her new pet rabbit (Wilf) and guinea pig (Moggie). They were absolutely adorable and they liked sitting on top of my bump and snuggling. In fact Moggie got so cosy and comfortable that he weed all over me!! It was hilarious and luckily I had a clean change of clothes with me. Bless the little blighter. My sister then ran me to my midwife clinic in Wanstead for my appointment. Now, I must just explain that ever since I met my community midwife she has been less than friendly. At first I thought it was just me, but then I realised all of the community midwifes in that clinic are equally horrid. Today was an amazing example: my appointment was at 1.30pm. We arrived in Wanstead at 1pm, a bit early, so we had a quick wander around the shops and headed to the clinic for about 1.15pm. The door to the clinic was locked so we knocked and the door was answered by a woman: I really don’t understand the attitude of these women, midwifery is supposed to be a caring profession. The midwives at the hospital are all absolutely lovely, but the community midwives are just a bunch of miserable and rude women. I feel sorry for them, it must be awfully hard work to be THAT horrid all the time. Fortunately I don’t have to go back for another two weeks and, even more fortunately, I am having my baby in my nearest hospital, which falls under a different Borough, so none of my community midwives will be there – thank goodness. I can’t imagine a worse bunch of people to have present during labour. It’s a shame that they think they can spend their days being horrible to perfectly nice and normal women who are supposed to be enjoying a positive pregnancy experience. God, it makes me so ANGRY. I’m going to have to go and eat some chocolate now…grrr!
